The Tempe Rugby Football Club (RFC) is proud to announce the inception of the Junior Men’s Program. In the Fall of 2008, the Tempe Rugby Club Executive Board instituted a high school age (U19) youth program as a means of opening up opportunities for kids around the valley and further raising the level of awareness about the sport of rugby in Arizona and the United States. Under the umbrella of the United States Rugby Football Union and the Tempe Rugby Club, the junior athletes will benefit from, and function under, the club’s existing organizational administrative and coaching structure.
Traditionally, athletes with experience in American sports such as football, wrestling, and soccer have been very successful in rugby due to similarities and transferable skills between the sports. However, previous experience in any specific sport including rugby is not required. Moreover, athletes of all shapes, sizes, skill levels are welcome and invited to join. Parents and athletes alike are encouraged to ask questions and stop by to catch a glimpse of training to learn more about the sport of rugby, the club and our 30 years of success, and how rugby can support the development of a young man’s psychological and physical development.
Should the game of rugby appeal to you, and should you decide to join, please proceed to the “New Player Admin” link at the top of the temperugby.com web site and follow the steps as outlined therein. Please submit all necessary paperwork to the club Secretary. These steps will move you one step closer to becoming eligible to practice and complete with the Tempe Rugby Club Junior Men’s team.
For additional information, please contact the Tempe Rugby Club Junior Men’s Program Coach or Manager listed on the club contacts sections of temperugby.com.
Best regards,
Executive Board
